“This Code reflects the industry’s progress on welfare since the 2003 Code and incorporates current research on goat welfare,” said Melissa Speirs, Humane Canada representative on the goat Code Development Committee. “The updated code will benefit goats raised in Canada by setting a standard of care for all goat farms across the country.”

What we do…
Raise public awareness of the value of goats. Provide educational information on goat management and care. Encourage young people with their involvement with goats and 4-H clubs. BCGA ensures that goat industry concerns are heard at the provincial government level, such as input on the ALR (agricultural land reserve), MOVI working group for wild sheep and other important issues. At the Federal Government level, BCGA works with the Canadian National Goat Federation on issues such as traceability on farm safety and scrapie. |
